René Hábl was one of the most prominent painters associated with the "Zlínský okruh", a group of artists active in the Zlín region, yet his significance has far exceeded the boundaries of this region. Hábl's early works were characterised by a wild and vibrant use of colour and sharply defined shapes, which later evolved into a distinctive painterly style. This style, which employed thin contour lines to approach drawing, became his signature. The backgrounds, often rendered in a single soft pastel colour that evokes the yellowed paper of age, feature faceless, anonymous figures. This is because the form of the depicted object is not as important as the meaning that is derived from it. The artist therefore took care to name the painting, which for him was not just a description but the completion of the creative act. The exhibition aims to recall Hábl's work in its entirety, with an emphasis on the artist's surviving archive.
