The exhibition was organised by the Regional Gallery of Fine Arts in Zlín from December 13, 2017 to February 25, 2018. The exhibition contains a selection of 21 letters that date back to the years between 1910 and 1935. A fundamental part of the collection is the correspondence addressed to Amélie Parayre (1872-1958), whom the artist later married in 1898. Letters written by the two Matisse were preserved by Sergej Ščukin (1854-1936), a Moscow collector, patron and supporter of Matisse during the early part of his career. The works on display are supplemented by three letters addressed to Marie and Emil Kas, a married couple from Bohemia, who had worked in the Matisse household from 1933 or 1934, as well as a letter addressed to Matisse from his son, Jean.
